Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre explained in an article in Aftenposten the most real threats in the short term:

  1. Cyber threats and digital attacks: There has been an increase in digital attacks against Norwegian targets, which affect widely across sectors

  2. Unwanted drone activity: There have been reports of unknown drones near critical infrastructure in Norway

  3. Intelligence activities: PST and the Norwegian Intelligence Service assess the intelligence threat from Russia and China in particular as high

  4. Threats against critical infrastructure: Especially against oil and gas installations, which have led to increased security measures on the Norwegian continental shelf

  5. Compound threats: These include a broad use of means intended to create discord, insecurity and unrest

Støre emphasizes that these threats require increased vigilance from all Norwegians, and new methods from the police and security services. The government has therefore stepped up preparedness and added extra resources to relevant agencies to deal with these challenges.

It is natural to feel insecure in the face of such threats, but it is also important to remember that there are many measures and resources that each of us can use to deal with them.

Together we must raise awareness, be alert and prepared, and begin to realize that the world we are part of has changed, and that our everyday lives are not unaffected by this reality.
